REMINISCENCES By Wm. Peile. It seems that from the many solicitations I have received to add my testimony of the years gone by, as an old settler of this community and of Lyon County, I must write, and maybe it is my duty to add to the pages of the book now under consideration to be published as a ‘memento’ of early days. In Ex Baillie David Willox wrote a book called Reminiscences of Parkhead that was his memories of the shops, public houses, and the people of Parkhead. Parkhead History would like to hear your memories of Parkhead. The games you played, school days, work and the church you attended, just e mail us at [email protected] or get [ ]. The Union Army first used the camp in as an Controlled by: Union Army. That is a recurring theme in many of the reminiscences in this book: The Wind takes on a personality all its own and to some of the pioneers seemed almost to become a living entity. I don’t think I would be strong enough to survive walking across the Missouri River in the dead of winter, as Mrs. Elise G. Everett did.

Notwithstanding the difficulties of season, opposition, and misrepresentation, the progress made would be creditable if no.

[5] Colonel Charles W. Allison, the commander at Camp Chase, appeared to owe his appointment to the fact that he was the son-in-law of Ohio’s lieutenant governor. An inspecting officer dispatched by Hoffman termed him, “utterly ignorant of the most common requirements of Army Regulations” and “not in any degree a soldier.”.

The camp was pleasantly situated under command of a General of the Army and many Army Surgeons. The camp was lain out in streets, named after different northern states.
